Insurance Information
Insurance coverage
Rao Dermatology accepts most major insurances. Please see below for a detailed list of insurance companies that we participate with. Remember that elective procedure consultations and treatments are almost never covered by insurance.
Before your visit: Do you need a referral?
Some insurance plans require you to have a referral from your regular doctor in order to see a specialist physician. Whether or not you need one does not depend on the type of insurance you have - it depends on which specific plan you have within that insurance company.
You can often tell whether or not you need a referral simply by looking at your insurance card. If not, you can call the number on the back of your card and ask. If you still can't tell, just give us a call and we can help you figure it out. If you do need one, just call your regular doctor's office to request one. If they need any further information to process it, they are welcome to call each office directly:
New York: 212.949.0393
New Jersey: 732.872.2007
California: 559.446.0285
Just keep in mind that your referral must be processed and received before your exam, otherwise your insurance may not cover your visit. It is the responsibility of the patient to know their insurance plan, and to know whether or not a referral is required.
