Botox
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin. This medication was originally used in small doses to treat muscle spasms. When applied correctly, Botox reduces the use of a specifically targeted muscle, and can smooth wrinkles that are caused by constant use of that muscle, such as crows feet or frown lines. Botox typically lasts 2-6 months. The procedure takes approximately 20-40 minutes in the office, and patients may reapply their makeup immediately afterward.
Side effects are minor and not experienced by everyone; they can include a slight headache later in the day, and some redness and/or slight bruising around the injection site, similar to the bruising some people experience after getting a shot of novocain at the dentist. We do not recommend any intense exertion for the rest of the day, or activities that involve being upside down, such as yoga or gymnastics.
